Srebrenica è una città molto antica fondata dagli Illiri. Il nome Srebrenica significa città argentata, dovuto al nome Argentarija, dato dagli Antichi Romani. Durante il periodo romano la città era tra le più grandi e importanti città europee, con una popolazione di 30.000 abitanti. Nel 1300 vi abitò il primo gruppo di Francescani nella regione balcanica. Fu un centro fondamentale durante il periodo di dominio Ottomano e Austro Ungarico grazie alle sue risorse minerarie e termiche. È stata conosciuta in tutto il mondo dopo l’ultima guerra civile nei Balcani, quando nel luglio 1995 la popolazione bosniaca musulmana fu sterminata, passando alla storia come il primo genocidio sul suolo europeo dopo la seconda Guerra Mondiale.
La municipalità di Srebrenica racchiude una potenzialità naturale che al giorno d’oggi è per molti sconosciuta. Foreste, migliaia di fiumi, canyon, bellissimi villaggi e montagne. Con le sue 48 fonti d’acqua termale naturali, è uno dei più grandi centri termali del mondo.

Srebrenica is a really old city, founded by the Illyrians. The name of Srebrenica means Silver City due to the name given by the Ancient Romans: Argentarija. During Ancient Romans time was one of the biggest and most important city in Europe with a population of 30.000 inhabitants. In 1300 was the home for the first group of Franciscans in the Balkan Region. Important center during the Ottoman and Austro Hungarian domination due to its mineral and thermal resources. It becomes worldwide known after the last civil war in the Balkan, when in July 1995 the local Bosnian Muslim population was killed and passed in the history as the first Genocide on European soil after World War II. The Municipality of Srebrenica old a natural potentiality that today is mainly unknown. Green forests, thousands of Rivers, Canyons, beautiful villages and mountains. Untouched nature and beautiful people are two resources of this magic land. with its 48 natural thermal spring waters is one of the biggest thermal center in the world.
